2012 – 2013 HHS Warrior Guides Mentoring Club

“Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'”                1 Peter 5: 2-5

Henderson High School’s mentoring club, Warrior Guides, is in its second year and going strong.  The Officers of the Club this year are:  Kelly Hicks, Morgan Daugherty, Eric Howe and Lauren Andrews.  The goal of the club is to provide an opportunity to individual Henderson High School students to be a significant influence on the life of a Chester 5th grader who may need supplemental support, friendship or encouragement. Membership in the club comes with distinct responsibilities.  Each high school student will be expected to participate in at least 5 organized, community events with their Chester mentee.  These events are pre-established at the beginning of the school year and are completely organized and primarily funded by the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation; however, the club members will also help to raise money for the program.

Participating Chester elementary schools are:  Widener Partnership Charter School, Columbus Elementary, Chester Charter School for the Arts, Main Street Elementary, Chester Upland School of the Arts, Frederick Douglas Christian School, and Chester Community Charter School.

Any mentors turning 18 years old prior to 9/1/13 will be required to have a Criminal Background Check done ($10) as well as a Child Abuse Clearance ($10) and their name will be run against the Megan’s Law National Sexual Offenders Registry when they turn 18. Directions on how to complete that necessary paperwork can be found by clicking here.

Chester parents are encouraged to attend at least one event per year.  We would love for you to see what your child is experiencing and your attendance will help us sufficiently chaperone each event.  Please call Karen Hicks at 484-390-0689 if you would like to help out at any of the events this year!

All Chester 5th graders interested in the program, can contact Karen Hicks at 484-390-0689 in advance of the Meet and Greet.  A full description of the program, the mission, the aims and expectations of the Braves and Warrior Guides, as well as the rules of the program, commitment forms and waiver forms can be found by clicking here.  A tentative schedule for this year’s events can be found by clicking here.  For a copy of the letter of invitation that went out to parents of 5th graders in Chester, please click here.
