Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Memorial Scholarship 2014

Just Jordan

Congratulations to the recipient of the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Memorial Scholarship for 2014, Jordan McCool.  This award is a four year scholarship that totals $10,000 over fours years ($2,500 each year for up to four years).  Jordan has shown her desire to help the children of Chester and has served in several different aspects of the Foundation throughout her years at Henderson High School.  Jordan has participated in Open Events, done her Senior Project with the Foundation, participated in Warrior Guides each year, and has been a Counselor at Camp Paradise every year as well, accumulating 397 hours of service to date.  Jordan plans to continue her education at the University of Florida, pursuing a major in Broadcast Journalism.

In order to qualify for this scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a member in good standing of his/her Henderson High School senior class
2. Have participated in the Henderson High School Boys Soccer and/or Boys Ice Hockey program for at least one full season during his/her high school career and also volunteered with the Foundation at some point OR volunteered for a minimum of 40 hours with the Foundation
3. Have maintained a minimum of a 3.0 Grade Point Average
4. Have been scheduled to graduate from Henderson High School in June 2014
5. Have been accepted to and is planning to attend a four year college or university

Through her time volunteering with the Foundation, Jordan has established a very close relationship with the Baxter Family from Chester.  Her Brave this year was Je’Lisa Baxter, and they enjoyed seeing each other at each and every event though out the year.

Jordan decided to complete her Senior Project with the Foundation as well.  She took on the Toy Drive last winter and collected over 1,300 toys for the children in Chester!  Without this Toy Drive, many of the children of Chester would not have been able to open presents on Christmas or experience the joy of the season.

In addition, Jordan has volunteered as a Camp Paradise Counselor each year.  She has donated so much of her time and love to the kids that come for the week in the summer and has demonstrated what it means to serve.

Jordan has also gone above and beyond and assisted the Foundation with administrative duties, mailings, and camp preparation. Without her time and much needed help, events such as Camp Paradise would not have run as smoothly and successfully as they have. In her application essay for the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation Memorial Scholarship, Jordan wrote, “I have gained life skills that I instill in my everyday life such as a strong work ethic, initiative, self-discipline, teamwork, independence, and desire to help others.” She also said that she credits her “tenacious desire to help others to the three hundred plus hours that I have volunteered to date.”

Check out how her Brave, Je’Lisa Baxter, honored her at the Phillies game!  Her beads say, “Jordan McCool is the best Warrior Guide”!

JeLisa

The Board of the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation is so proud of Jordan’s accomplishments and is excited to present her with this award. She will receive a scholarship of $2,500 this year, and is eligible for $2,500 for each of the next three years as long as she maintains a 3.0 GPA and volunteers a minimum of 15 hours each year with the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation, or participates in a minimum of 2 Foundation events each year. We are confident that Jordan will return to work with the Foundation. We also know that she will continue to keep in contact with the Baxter Family from Chester even though she will be attending school in Florida. We will be praying for you, Jordan, that you will continue to do God’s work wherever you go, and live out the mission of the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation in the years to come. Congratulations and do your best at the University of Florida!
